Alpha Chi Omega women worldwide support victims of domestic violence and encourage participation in local agencies. Our USC Epsilon chapter devotes our services to the women of Casa de Rosas, a Los Angeles-based women's shelter. Also known as the Sunshine mission, this shelter provides women in need with emergency shelter, three meals each day, free access to common necessities, and on-site supportive services. Each year Epsilon chapter and raises money and awareness through our annual flag football tournament, All American, in honor of this worthy cause.
Casa de Rosas
USC's vast Greek system has blessed us with the ability to broadcast our message of domestic violence awareness to a large number of people. Every October, during Domestic Violence Awareness (DVA) week, the sisters of Alpha Chi Omega host a candlelight vigil to honor victims of domestic violence. This vigil is traditionally held at the Alpha Chi Omega house, and all members of the community are invited to attend. Sisters of Alpha Chi Omega also volunteer at the USC Center for Women and Men to help with DVA week events.
In addition to DVA week activities, the sisters of Alpha Chi Omega support the philanthropy through financial and time commitments. Other philanthropy events - such as carwashes - are also held throughout the year to raise money. Sisters volunteer their time at battered women's shelters, doing administrative and maintenance work, and during the holiday season we "adopt a shelter" by donating items on wishlists. In the spring, Alpha Chi volunteers in a USC-wide event known as Take Back the Night, and event that stands to end sexual violence.
Whenever possible, Alpha Chi girls look to promote Domestic Violence Awareness. This coming year our VP Philanthropy is working on arranging hands-on volunteer opportunities at least once a month at both the Havens House as well as a program called A Window Between Worlds.
