Here are a few of the questions parents have had in the past. If you have any other questions regarding membership in Alpha Chi Omega or Greek life in general, please contact our president, Elise Fabbro.
Q: Are members required to live in the sorority house?
A: No. Many girls choose to live in the house, while others live in residence halls or apartments. Members who have lived in have enjoyed the experience, while others feel that they are just as much a part of the house even while living out.
Q: What if my daughter wants to live in the house?
A: Most members who want to live in the house are able to. However, the house is not large enough to hold all of our sisters, so the sorority uses a system of house points to determine who gets to live in the house.
Q: Do academics suffer as a result of being in a sorority?
A: Actually, just the opposite. Our sorority GPA is above the all-women's average and the all-Greek average for USC. To be an active member of a USC sorority, a member must maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. We have many members who far exceed this, and every semester we have girls on the Dean's List. Additionally, many of our members are members of various academic honor societies. For more information, please visit our Scholarship page or our Involvement page.
Q: Is it expensive to be a part of Alpha Chi Omega?
A: The costs associated with being a member of AXΩ are comparable to any other Panhellenic sorority. For more information regarding dues amounts for joining a sorority, please contact the Panhellenic Council. Please keep in mind that dues includes everything from social fees to meals. All members, whether they live in or out of the house are provided meals. Also, the costs to live in when combined with the regular dues is still significantly less than the cost of living in university housing.
Q: Will my daughter have time for a sorority?
A: Absolutely! In the beginning it may seem overwhelming, but each girl decides how much time she can put into the sorority without affecting her studies, jobs and other activities. There are some mandatory meetings and events throughout the year, but most activities are optional, and each member can decide which ones she participates in.
Q: Is there hazing?
A: Absolutely not! Like all Panhellenic sororities at USC, Alpha Chi Omega strictly forbids hazing.
Q: What types of activities are members involved in?
A: Alpha Chi Omegas are involved in all sorts of activities, ranging from clubs and athletics to volunteer work and more. For more information, please visit our Involvement page.
Q. What are some recognitions that Alpha Chi Omega has received?
A: 2009-2010 was an amazing school year for our members! We won the Beth Saul Spirit Award in the USC Songfest competition with the gentlemen of Phi Gamma Delta! Partnered with Theta Chi fraternity, we were awarded most spirited in the float decorating contest during Homecoming Week. Additionally, at the 2010 Order of Omega Greek Awards we proudly received the Certificate of Excellence for Outstanding Improvement.
